What to Watch:

Creator - Jon Youshaei

Normally I give a big letter with lots of things to see and watch

This week - I think it’s well worth the time investment just to watch this video

I know some of you won’t have an hour so I’ve broken down some of the tips into the bullet points below

Bonus Tips:

Visual Anchors: - This starts in the thumbnail, but it’s basically the idea that if you don’t have something to visually captivate an audience… then why are you making a video? Write a blog post instead

Thumbnails Matter: Jon goes into the 5 C’s for thumbnail design, but these are pretty easy - composition (where are things in your thumbnail)
- context (can you tell what the video is sort of about at a small scale)
- clean (are there 3 elements or less?)
- curiosity (it has to look strong enough)
- color (use the color wheel, and complimentary/contrasting colors)

For Shorts - your first frame should look like a thumbnail

Find outliers - for research here’s where you can look OUTSIDE of YouTube

Reddit
X
Quora

You can sort all of those tools by most popular and most searched items. If you find something with a bunch of traction, maybe make a video of it

Double down on your own outliers

Steal like an artist (we’ve talked about this, check out the last newsletter)

You need a 3% change, and you’re not limited to anywhere for inspiration
Look back at 20s advertising, look at 50s film, wherever WHENever

Avoid eye fatigue: When framing make sure that there is consistently one thing for people to focus on

Speak with a 5th - 7th grade reading level there’s a couple of sites for this, it’s an easy google search away, ChatGPT can also translate high level language to lower

Oh, and last thing:
