Thumbnail Breakdown

Don’t get stuck on 7k views, this creator can do MUCH better. So why is this thumbnail/title combos a miss? It’s got three main elements. It looks nice…
Well it does- but it doesn’t tell me anything about what I’m going to watch. If I have to watch the video to figure out what the thumbnail means - it’s a bad thumbnail. The title could also use some minor improvement. Even though it might be an interview it can be phrased differently. Think shorter: “o1 explained by an expert” The problem isn’t the niche by the way…

Once again we see that simple is better. Yielding a 7.8x outlier. See the complicated concept of AGI is not the issue - I don’t even know what that means. But SOMEONE does. 52k someones to be exact.
The issue is not that your content is too niche, it may be in fact that you’re not going in HARD enough on your specific niche. This tells the viewer exactly what they’re going to watch. And they use the answered question format for the title, which is always a brilliant touch.

If you have questions about the concepts above, just reply with em’ I’d love to connect!

Key Takeaways

Branding: Even without needing a custom border, or a symbol - Tatsuki has managed to create a brand in his thumbnail design with font, style and creative expression, try to see if you can easily identify what your potential ‘brand’ might be
Simplicity: Notice that the text is not overwhelming. Every thumbnail has one to three words, and they don’t take up too much space, even when they are the main focus
Title length: 8 words. That’s his longest title. Think of how you can convey the same message in less words, if you can’t… then it might be back to the drawing board with your video idea.

Key Takeaway:
Amid talks of the U.S. ban of TikTok it’s more important than every for creators to remember platform agnosticism, as Roberto Blake calls it. If you create only on YouTube, it’s probably a safe bet, but if your content CAN be placed on multiple platforms with little effort, then it might be well worth the investment.
And if you’re only posting on TikTok, now is a better time than ever to start testing the waters with YouTube shorts, and Instagram reels.
