What to Watch:

The Casey Neistat Interview - Jon Youshaei

Okay. I know it’s long. But Casey Neistat is one of THE most influential YouTube creators of all time. If you are a creator that talks to their camera, it is a MUST watch.
Jon Youshaei is definitely worth subscribing too as well - his interviews follow the same basic structure -
How do you do what you do? What are some of the systems? and there’s always a section where they talk about the ‘business’ side of YouTube

Thumbnail Breakdown

972 is the average view count for this channel. But- here’s one with 64k views. It gets said over and over again. But it’s the thumbnail, the title, and the idea. The thumbnail has such good juxtaposition. There is a curiosity gap of - how is that truck on water. What makes the road so deadly? A viewer HAS to click.
The title is a little long, but it looking at it objectively - it looks like that doesn’t matter so much. Notice the drop shadow on the words in the thumbnail. Overall though, it can have a similar thumbnail and fail if the idea isn’t good enough

Don’t Do This!

Creator - AutenticDocumentary

128 views on a video posted within the same timeframe. The thumbnail has great juxtaposition. The title has the same length, the text on the thumbnail is nearly the same. So… what’s wrong?
The idea. Surfers are already known as rebels, why would this be any different? Where is the curiosity gap? I’d like to point out that Surfing India would have probably made a much better on screen text.
Last note - ‘chicks on boards’ seems to go against the otherwise serious tone of the channel branding. Something to be wary of when deciding your channel content.

Creator’s we love

Darren Naylor is an artist. That’s the basis for this week’s pick. One can learn so much from his style of videography.

I typically don’t recommending bending your niche, but this channel makes it work. The niche is art, specifically painting, and oil painting if you want to drive down further, but in these videos he’s branched into YouTube. Not YouTube education, but YouTube inspiration. If you feel like you’ve hit a block, these videos might just be the thing you need.

How you can prepare:
This means that even though it might seem like everyone wants to be a creator… that’s fine. Look, the best time to start was 10 years ago. The second best time is right now. Get creating.
