How To ACTUALLY Script a Viral YouTube video - Bryan Ng

I normally don’t recommend Bryan Ng to people, as his editing style is a little sporadic, but this is a Livestream that he recorded last week, and it is packed with scriptwriting essentials. If the area that you’re struggling with is figuring out what to do with your hook, how to build tension, and overall story structure specific to YouTube videos, this is one I would check out. As a heads up, the video doesn’t really start until about 5:03

Thumbnail Breakdown

Brandon Voloch is an up and coming creator with just over 27k subscribers. Though this was a year ago, it is a clear under performer. But why? It’s got a clean thumbnail, so why does a channel with 30k average views only have 9.6. Two reasons that I can identify. 1) It’s hard to see - I can’t immediately tell that it’s a bike with no air in the tires when zoomed out. 2) Even this title may be too long- normally in this newsletter the idea is the issue, but this time - it’s not the idea at all. And I can prove it

Boom! Same idea, similar title, and thumbnail and it has 2.4 million views. This is proof that thumbnail matters so much more than everyone thinks. By highlighting the tire in this picture, he doesn’t have to waste the space in the title. That and a more prominent camera angle showcasing the actual star of the show, the bike. Last - there are no distracting details like two random riders in the background, or legs that don’t add anything to the picture.

Creator’s we love

Paolo Abeabe:
Paolo is at heart, a storyteller. Moreso he’s a story finder. His identity is so clear as a creator: His niche is built into the value proposition that he has on his bio - “Finding stories in the Mundane”

Aside from having some great technical content, Paolo does a lot of deep dives into the mindset of what it means to be a creator, the ins, and outs, but burnout. Stylistically I’d say he’s somewhat of a genius, but don’t take my word for it, his channel is worth the subscription.

Key Takeaway:
As the creator economy continues to bloom, there will be more and more opportunities for creators to seek meaningful employment through creator driven platforms. YouTube therefore doesn’t have to be the end result of a creators journey but an online resume of performance.
