As a whole, I’m not a fan of Think Media’s advice EXCEPT when it comes to gear recommendations. They kind of lead the way in this particular subset of info. The whole stream is worth checking out, but there’s video chapters if you’re looking for something specific. They break down a lot of Amazon’s deals, and there’s a Q&A at the end of the video. The chat is also worth looking at.

Thumbnail Breakdown

Trend Jacking gone wrong - The process of trend jacking is taking a trend ( a meme, a piece of news media, a popular format) and making a piece of content structured around that. The ‘very demure, very mindful’ meme is the trend that Koalanof is trying to take advantage, but the problem is that’s all it’s trying to do. The title doesn’t tell me what the video is about, and the “Mini Vlog” text is waaay too small. The picture is nice, but in this age, that’s not enough to make the video stand out.

Same creator, and also jacking a trend. However the trend in this case is much more universal (people who like hobbies) so it has a much higher TAM (total addressable market, or the amount of total people that COULD watch the video).
Look also at the text. The You Need Hobbies is very easily legible, the background creates nice juxtaposition, and I know exactly what I’m going to be clicking on whenever I select this video.

It’s not lost on me that Tim is a bit of a larger creator with 50+k subs - HOWEVER - all of his growth is from the last year, and he’s only posted 42 videos. This is the power of knowing your audience, having great editing, and killer thumbnails, titles, and video ideas.

It will lead to all sorts of spaces opening for unfiltered news that isn’t corporately sponsored, as well as job opportunities and creator opportunities with larger companies.
